    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello and thank you for your time. I have a 1980 GS850,and i just replaced my clutch. Problem is, now i cant squeeze the lever. Not like the cable is to tight, mpre like nothing inside is moving. Now the bike hasn't ran in over a year and just been sitting there. (I had to buy a ring before i finished my project) is the basket supposed to spin? Because mine ddoesn't. I did not remove the basket, just replaces clutch plates, steel plates and springs. But now its like it is seized up. The bike sat for a year and i just now did the replacing of the clutch.
 
Where did you source the plates and springs and were they 'heavy duty' by any chance. Heavy duty springs can be difficult to pull.
The basket won't spin unless the crank is turning. Why did you replace the clutch and did the slots in the basket have hammer marks from the original plates? What direction is the crank at the top of the actuating rod pointed. It should be more or less parallel to the fore and aft axis of the bike. If it is off a lot it will make it more difficult to pull.
 
If the clutch will not spin while engine is turning then disregard the following.

While replacing the plates on my 750 I did not have the teeth lined up on the shaft that goes into the clutch cover on the first attempt.
The second attempt I made sure the shaft teeth were aligned properly and then had movement while pulling the lever.
 
The steel plates are from barnett, and the springs are EBC high performance. My crank is slightly pointed out away from the bike. I dont have any oil in it yet but i did pre soak the plates during the install. I get no movement at all not even by hand.

I have the EBC HD springs, they are about 12%-15% stiffer then stock though way lighter then the Barnett HD springs I did have. So if you have the same springs I do, doubt it is them. What did you torque the springs too? They are only like 12 ft/lbs.

Yes, maybe the clutch arm actuator shaft #25 is not meshing with rack shaft gizmo #21 properly and it's binding
