A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

now that i have the engine running excellent, noticed yesterday riding home in the 3-4-5-6 gears some clutch slippage when trying to realy give it the power (like passing gear). It wouldnt over rev and did not stop accelerating, it was still pulling but i def noticed some slight slippage. Bike is a 78 gs550 and only has 14000 on it and oil is fresh 15w50. my clutch lever disengages right near the very end of its travel, does it sound more like a cable/push rod adjustment or clutch rebuild time?

engages at the very end of travel sound like adjustment to me also:-D

While you're in there adjusting the clutch, be sure to lubricate that plastic on plastic cam thats in there. I had mine stick wide open making the bike act like the clutch was shot. Clutch lever flappin' in the breeze. A little wd40, and it was all fixed.

Sounds like clutch adjustment to me too. You should have between 2-3mm between the lever and the handle lever bar holder before the clucth starts to disengage.

Oil and clutches

Oil and clutches

I'm a GS'r and a Wing'r. On the Gold Wing board they recommend using oil that isn't "Energy Conserving". If you look at the back of the bottle there is a circle with the API rating. If it has "Energy Conserving" in the circle that means it has friction inhibiting additives. These additives are OK for an application that has a dry clutch, but supposedly can cause a wet clutch to slip. When adjusting the clutch there a three adjustments points on most. One at each end of the cable and an adjustment screw and lock nut on the cover. I'm told that the adjustment screw "MUST NOT" be tensioning the shaft. If it is then loosen it, turn it back in till you feel resistance, then reverse it a quarter turn before tightening the lock nut. I'm kinda reciting from memory here so if you've got a manual you should consult that. LOL!
