A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

color tune ?

first timer

Forum Sage
when using the color tune can you run the bike at all engine ranges? can the color tune handle the engine turning at 8500+ rpms?

I am thinking about get a set and am very intrested in tuning my mid and main settings.

High speed tuning requires the bike be moving so there is a load on the engine. If you have a dynometer you can do this (and speed shops do) but at idle the results are apt to be meaningless.

The manufacturer states that the plug can accept these speeds, but does not recommend extended times ( over 3 minutes) at speeds above an idle speed. Even without a load on the bike, you can get some idea of the combustion flame and the direction to change jetting.

A dynamometer tells you little about the jetting, only wether you have the most HP and torque. Presumably, when these numbers peak, you have the best jetting, but you would have to fiollow a process of incremental jet increases until your numbers peaked, and then adjust accordingly.

For a poor man's assessment, the Colortune works well.

i'm basicly just looking for a way to see if my needles are set to the right hight and what going on at idle, i'm running a jet kit so i would have to think they have a pretty good idea what the main should anyway.

looks like i may get one of these color tunes dealies then thanks for the info.

I played with mine and read the manual Ryan. It says not to use it under a load ever. They warn you that it's design is not made to handle load conditions. At least the one I just got says that. Also, it seems the color is not so easy to read. It is always blue no matter what. But the outer edges are what seems to change color as it fires. I haven't got into using it yet myself for tuning. I played with it a bit and took it back out and haven't looked at it since.

I definitely had no difficulty seeing it from Dirty yellow through white, but I did it in the shaded carport.
