    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Compression Ratios: What Ratio Would be Too Much?

As I was admiring the toys on this page:

I noticed that street compression ratios seem to run from 10.25: to 12:
The ones displaying 13.5:1 are all identified for Drag only.

How would a bike react on the street with these 13.5:1 compression ratios?
Just wondering ... :D

You need racing gas for 13.5:1
For pump premium 10.5:1 is all I would run. Dan
 
crotch rockets today are running 14:1 i believe, dont see the prob with 13 if the jetting n timing are right ,check into it,
 
compression ratio dont make as much diff as cam timing does ..... with the proper cam size and timing i would think you could do 13 .... the power band would be real high though

No way is this true. Modern engines have highly developed combustion chambers, liquid cooling and computer control of timing, fuel mixture, knock sensors and even throttle opening to a level that a engineers would only dream about in the 70's and 80's. Running that kind of compression in a 70's machine would be criminal. Dan

For an old AIR cooled GS, keep the compression ratio under 11.5 for pump gas. Whoever above posted new bikes are 14 to 1 failed to also post that those are WATER cooled & there is a HUGE difference in the heat in the combustion chambers between the 2! Stick to 10.5 to 1 you will be much happier unless, of course, you are building a high HP street race engine that will ONLY run on race gas! Ray.
