I'm surprised that only a few posts have mentioned JIS. None of the screws on these bikes are Phillips, as far as I know. JIS screws might look like Phillips, but using a Phillips driver will strip them in short order. McMaster Carr sells a JIS driver kit (#1, #2 and #3) made by Vessel for about $30 and are perfect for anyone working on old Japanese bikes (or cars). Normal Phillips impact drivers also tend to have stubby bit tips which fit JIS fasteners better than standard drivers.
That being said, Allen fasteners have the benefit of requiring easily packable hex keys that can get into tight spots, so I use them wherever I can.
