    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Connectors

If you google MOLEX, they have a wide variety of connectors in many different applications. VERY high quality. We use them exclusively on our aircraft....and my GS!

Molex crimpers

Molex crimpers

I tried some at a local parts place (the oddly named B&E Electronics: the place where burglars shop for electronics I suppose?). But could not figure out how to make a crimp. The counter guy was no help.

Am I just a spaz, or is there some advice you can pass on as to how to form those crimps?

Connectors? Need advice

I'm new to the GS resources, and new to the GS world period. I recently bought an 83 GS 750ES. Things were good until my ride to work this morning. Out of nowhere, my tach quit working, along with all my lights except the headlight. No turn indicators on instrument cluster, no gear indicator, no neutral indicator.. Nothing? Any one have any ideas where to start trying to track down the issue?

You need to post this in the Technical Forum. Except for the tach I would tell you to start with the fuses. But the tach is mechanically driven. That it would go out the same time as the lights makes no sense.

Repost in the tech section and we will get to the bottom of it.

Also, electrical faults seem to come at night when it's harder to work on. I have a small Mag Lite which I wrapped some electrical tape around near the end. It makes it easy to hold in your mouth, leaving both hands free.

I'm partial to LED headlamps that wrap around the head with an elastic strap. Leaves both hands free. Runs at least 20 hours on one set of AAA batteries. Can buy at Target, Wally world, etc.

Don an 83 has an electronic tacho, all 16v GS's run electronic tacho's, so this is definitely an electrical issue.

The ES's had electric tacho's? My 83 E is driven off the cam, and it's 16v.

The T, ET, EX, LT, ED and EZ 16 valve GS models have mechanical tachs. The ESD and Katanas have electronic tachometers.
