    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Continuos 630 chain install or not to install?

Hello. I am changing back to the stock 630 chain and sprockets from a PO conversion. The 630 OEM chain is continuous. No master link. I am wondering if I should go buy a new 630 chain with a master link or do the extra work and take off the swing arm in order to install the chain on the counter sprocket? The chain and sprockets are all in great shape. Any input would be appreciated.

Then what's the rush? I won't give you any grief about going in the reverse direction from most of the guys here (530 to 630), but be prepared for it.

I recently replaced my chain and sprockets, and looked into the 630 continuous. It's very expensive - hundreds of dollars, IIRC. I got a very good o-ring 630 for less than $100.
 
I meant to say that the original chain and sprockets are in fine shape. The 530 sprockets are not the stock teeth and a bit worn. I have the stock chain and sprockets (630) and they are in great shape.

Thank you Bill. You helped me during our attempt to do the 530 conversion on my "T" but as we know, ran into some problems.

You let me have yours only because you knew I needed it. What a great Friend you are! The 630 you gave up for me even has a master link! My goodness you are a good friend.

OP, if all is good...reconsider making a quick decision. I can relate to wanting to make things happen right away. We are excitable when it comes to getting things done on our bikes.;)

Pulling the swingarm will give you a chance to grease the bearings. Never a bad thing.

And while we're at it (hijack alert), how big is the power difference 630 to 530? I've heard it might not be enough to be noticeable.
 
Yes Rob, it is necessary to remove swingarm to install continuous chain...well, that doesn't sound right. Bill installed a 630 with a master link.

And I'm sure there's quite a difference in power considering both sprockets must be changed and "hello!" the chain is lighter! That don't mean it makes it faster...I just wanted to say that.

It's not that much work to get the swing arm off, and like Ed said it's a good chance to have a look at the swing arm bearings. As long as your sure the 630 chain is good, also check the master where it was pinned, no harm in using it.
