DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Couple issues since carb overhaul and valve adjustment?

Regular RTV will be fine. Regular axle grease would be fine, a very, very light layer.
My apologies for claiming it was too lean.

I can't seem to get the shaft to move easily or at all for that matter:rolleyes: I may have to remove the plate to loosen up the carbs..tomorrow! I found the #2 carb slider binding bad. In fact, I had to gently pry it just to get it to move! Hellooooo! WTF! can't wait to get that working again:rolleyes:

I still have to make a decision on how exactly to go about sealing and reusing cam 1/2 moon plugs which I think I might try reversing them, I'm not using Hondabond, that's goin back! how bout GM silicone sealer or even plain rtv?

Also my cam cover gasket which stay attached to cover but has a pretty descent impression of mating surface-hopefully it'll be fine. I never knew of putting grease(what kind) onto gasket surface?

SLYONE,

I just resealed the cam cover and rubber plugs on mine. I used Loctite 518 anerobic sealer only, no gasket. I works great, I have used it many times before without issue. gs450sjip

lol I found the lock tab for the slider shaft :o, wiped bore out & all fixed, reset my pilot fuel screws to 7/8" but a seal got torn in the process? so I'm on the backburner again until replacement arrives:(
While at the GM dealership, got a tube of regular GM engine sealant/rtv from a friend so I'll put the cam cover back on today/tonight hopefully...prolly be snowing by the time I get it all set!:twistedevil:

So what you are saying is the slide did not have the centering groove lined up correctly?

no, no, I had applied a very thin coat of vasoline to slider/bore, all were dragging, 2 being the worst. simply wipe bore with cleaner-problem solved! yea!

An old drag-racer trick I used on carburetor float bowl gaskets was to apply a thin layer of Chap-Stick to one side of the gasket. It will stick to one side and pull away easily without tearing. I just looked in my toolbox and saw that I still have a couple of tubes.

It works well on motorcycle carbs, too...
