    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

With the mods I've made (rearsets) to my bike, I can no longer use the kicker, so I am wondering if I can just remove it and use a later model clutch cover to cover the hole.
I think the newer covers had the clutch located on the right, so I'd have to block that hole, but it would be less visible than the old kicker shaft sticking out.

Does anyone know if the newer covers would fit my 77, and can I remove the kicker shaft without splitting the cases?
 
I am not possitive but i THINK the 1000 shared the lower with the 750s. They apparently never had a kick, so that may be an option.
 
And having realized this, i think that tosses my rearsets out the window. I like the security of the kick, and the overall vintageness helps out too. I dont even want to think about bumpstarting this heavy SOB. God help me if it didnt the first time and i ran out of hill...lol Although, down the road if the 1000 motor thing pans out, i could grab em up then.

I think, with a little planning, you can have the rearset & the kicker. It is actually the brake pedal that gets in the way. I haven't given it much thought yet, but I don't think it would ridiculously difficult to modify a kicker lever that would offer the clearances needed.

Plus, by the time you account for all the moderization we do - updated R/R, electronic ignition, modern batteries, etc... these are more dependable bikes than the were 30years ago, I don't have any plans to use a kicker unless I am just trying to look cool.
 
Having dealt with numerous old electric bike starters, i was more concerned with that. But at some point im going to have to give up the ghost if i want to do what i really want to with this project i suppose.
 
you can use an 80-81 gs850 cover I believe, Its the same thing with no hole drilled for the kicker. I have the same problem with the rear sets. My kickstarter is now useless until I figure something out.
 
I cant remember who, but it was suggested perhaps a kicker from a dirtbike would work, provided you could find one with the right size spline connection. They tend to be shorter and have more an angle away.

you might be able to find a small cap and use a set screw, to hold it on. do some of the smaller cc bikes have shorter kickers? i dont know if it will help. some of the hondas have them and that is what i have on my chop, dont know if the splines are the same though.
