    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Here is a guy with a sense of humour calling out idiots and how they try to sell a bike.

http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/1992-ex500r-PRICE-DROP_27224810

$5,500 ? 1992 ex500r PRICE DROP

This is a ~collectors~ bike very hard to find. It may be incredibly old and ill-kept but my weak character and cheap greed tell me it's acceptable to ask an unexplainably high price for a common and ultimately worthless item.

Dropped, at a low speed.

I'm also asking a 500$ cash deposit for test drives because it isn't insured and I want to avoid the impound fee, at your expense. Truthfully I'm just too cheap to either A keep it insured until it sells or B buy insurance for the day as a small expense for the sale of the item.

Here's my single picture, also I left out odomoeter info and any comment on recent maintenance.

Collectors bike? A 92 500R? No, nope, not exactly. And even in Canadian funny money $5500 is a joke.

A funny guy!
No, he's just joking, not really interested in selling.
I like those Kawi 500s, and that's a good looking one, I had a 93 EX500.
BTW Jethro, this bike in the pic is a post 1994.

He has the market cornered for Z1 parts, they must be nearly gone and he is moving to newer bikes. I have seen some $1500 gas tanks from him. And people pay it..... Buy your GS stuff now :)

Heavy as hell? Less than 500 pounds fully fueled for an 80's open class supersport? Interesting, but I think several people here are missing the point of this thread.

Or you are considering the CL poster recommended it as a "starter bike". The "point" of this thread is making fun of absurd CL bike ads.

That is indeed the point, and that was what made it funny. Explaining it lets the humor escape. Instead, further the joke.

I don't know if anyone has done this, but I put together a top 10 list of the verbiage I see on CL when reading m/c ads. Thought I would post it and see if you agree, disagree or want to expand it.

These are the things in a CL post that make me either laugh or groan.

Top 10 Craigslist Motorcycle Ad Posts
10. "Just needs minor electrical work/finish hooking up wiring harness to get running"
9. "Needs battery and gas to make run"
8. "In storage since the Clinton Administration"
7. "Just had carbs professionally rebuilt at (local shop name,) needs battery and tires to ride"
6. "Great bobber/cafe project"
5. Any post that uses the term "old skool"
4. "All original, excellent condition, new 4 into 1"
3. "Draws crowds wherever it goes"
2. "Rode it last summer, now carb(s) leak, needs adjustment"
And the number one Craigslist ad post is...
"It ran fine when I parked it"

That is a KILLER deal, even with work needed!!!

So he rode this little "starter bike" until he developed the skills required to handle a newer cruiser....... OK.
