DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So the bike was running and driving fine with the idle at around 1200.
the starter went out so I replaced with a ricks starter. Now when I turn the bike on it starts with no choke at all, and it runs at around 2500-3000. The bike will die if choke is applied, the bike was dripping what appeared to be gas out the bottoms right side of the crank. The oil pressure light is now on when the key is turned. Not sure where to start.

My bike is a 1982 Gs850glz.
forgot to add before this the bike did not backfire, now the bike backfires randomly

Sounds like the carbies are flooding do not run the bike until you check oil and make sure it doesn?t have fuel in it
the oil light should come on when the key is turned on and should go off when the bike has started

How do I fix the problem, just empty the carbs, or replace something ? I opened the oil filler and the oil level doesn?t look high, should I just drain the oil and check for gas ?

No I did not, however I did notice I left the choke on for at least a day if that could cause any problems.

Yeah I?m not smelling any gas. So does anyone have any recommendations?

Update, took the carbs out removed floats and needles cleaned them nothing was overly dirty or worn. I’m replacing the carb boots, and then going to check valve clearance and replace the gasket. Still not sure of what exactly is the problem
realized two different problems though. I need to replace the bowl seals in the carbs, and the drain plug o rings are trashed. And the signal generator cover seal is also toast which was allowing oil to spill out. I checked the oil and I do indeed have gas inside my case.

I'm thinking the reinforced rubber seal going around the end of crankshaft behind the ignition advancer.

My bike has a slight leak there as well.

Never removed one w/o splitting the cases, but I'm guessing someone's done it before with a couple wood screws and vice grips.

There's a little rubber lip that might make removing in place problematic or not.

The small cover that says DOHC is leaking. But I realized I have gas in my oil, I rebuilt the petcock recently, and I know now it’s working correctly so now I’m thinking float height, needle valves and seat o-rings. But I cannot get the seats to come out...

No, it is set to on. I have tested it since the petcock rebuild. I?m waiting for the new needle valve and seats to arrive.
