A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Crashed. Let the mocking commence.

Yup. After a 45 minute successful test ride, I laid her down.
My buddy, riding ahead of me, braked hard for a pedestrian who emerged froma hole in a hedge, and I hit the brake too hard and lowsided doing about 40-50kmh.

Tore a ligament in my right (good) thumb, so I'm looking at simple out-patient surgery plus 6-8 weeks in a cast. Left shoulder a bit sore, but otherwise good.

The green skunk, however:
Front fender.
Headlight + bracket.
Instruments.
Both left blinkers plus front right one.
Left mirror (the bar-end one).
Grip and clutch lever.
Tail (original, 78 skunk tail...) shattered.
Tail light.
Stator cover shot.
Left peg.

And those are the ones I know about before further investigation.

Pics:

Here's a Flickr set with all the (visible) damage. (click the image, and then click each image in the set to view large - or simply click "slideshow")

Yup.
Big dent in my dignity, of course, and sad as hell with the bike, but I'm OK.
The build thread is hereby cancelled.

Get Well Soon

Glad to hear your OK, and no serious injury....

The bike can be fixed as well

Why do you assume we will mock you? Most of us have gone down on a bike.It hurts most times, you and the bike.Glad you are relatively unhurt, sorry to see the state of The Green Skunk. Both you and she will come back from this(I hope).

Thanks, guys.
Of course - now it will get 100% attention to everything, as soon as (and probably before) I have use of my right hand again. :)

I didn't expect mocking, really.
I'm ****ed off at myself, mostly. :)

You ride for very long ..you go down ... I have respect for anyone dumb.;) anuff to ride a motorcycle ... I seem to fall off a bike once a year or so .(Not counting race track times) ..

Donkey helmet?

Donkey helmet?

Valentino Rossi, had a low side at the Indianapolis GP, back in 2009?
Nobody near him, no excuse.
So next race he shows up with donkey ears painted on his helmet.
Stuff happens. :p

I tend to ride 'harder' then most ... Just wate till a motorcycle disappears from underneath you.. Your still riding it but its gone..Just before you hit the ground you realise ."What I'm crashing"...

And there is nothing at all you can do but wait for the owie. :)
Splat.
Oh, the noise of disintegrating GS1000 will haunt my dreams for a long time...

Man lol.. Your right forgot all the noise that goes on .. Then your hearing the noise knowing that this heavy bike could stomp you died .. But you cant see where the bike is or where its going ...You did good bikes not hurt they always look like I bomb went off under the bike when I fall off one ..

Is this the first time you have been off on the street ?..(dirt crashing dont count ..)

Look at your helmet ..Good thing it was on your head ..

So ..What would of or should of you done to not of crashed ..Something I always run in my head after a crash trying to learn from it ..

Damn gravity ..

First time on the street, yes.
I have some ideas what I could or should have done, but before I offer them up I want to think about it some more. :)

I'm glad to hear you are okay. Heal up quick and do what you need to to get the bike up and running again.

Glad to hear you are alright and everything is fixable. I did the same thing at about 30 on a gravelly s curve, drove right off the side while i was too worried about the car coming the other direction. After ten years of riding. Luckily the bike landed on the back of my leg and spared me any serious repairs to it : ). It has given me more time to wrench as things heal up! Good luck with the hand.

Glad you are OK, and sorry about your bike. No matter how bad the damage, you can always fix the bike but your limbs don't grow back.

Having your gear on at all time is a good thing, but preventing the accident always comes first.

I can't tell you why you exactly went down but I'm sure of one thing; you were riding too close to your buddy ahead of you. Always, always, and always leave enough space cushion all around you so you can maneuver when a situation like this presents itself. Don't look at the idiots who ride inches from each other in groups to look cool, always stay back.

In general, give yourself 3-4 second lead time in speeds lowers than 35mph, 4-6 seconds for 35-50mph, and 6-8 seconds or more above 55mph. If you are carrying load or passenger, double the figures.

Never roll on the throttle the second the car or motorcycle in front of you starts moving, count to three then start. This will give your distance from the guys ahead of you. If someone starts honking at you for doing that, get off the bike and shoot him in the head.

As a beginner, don't follow your buddy, always get in front. It's much easier for an experienced rider to avoid hitting you, rather than you trying to avoid hitting him. If your buddy is not a beginner, give him a good kick in the head as he should have known better.

And most importantly, take a motorcycle Safety Course from MSF; it will save your life one day.

Ride safe and don’t feel bad at all for going down, it was going to happen sooner or later.

Edit: I see that you are in the Viking country, so MSF won't be available to you but i'm sure you can find likewise courses where you are.
