I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

custom, stainless exhaust??

GS750

Forum Mentor
I have been offered to have a set of custom made pipes (for free) by my local school.

All they need is my old set (luckily I have a spare set too) and they will replicate the bends etc and will even make a custom muffler which they will replicate the flow from my tranzac.

Thing is that the teacher said he really would like them to tig weld the pipes onto the 4-1 collector.
Is this a good idea or would it cause some other problems??

I currently have the older trazac pipes and a generic muffler fitted up to the bike but as I have only ever had full stainless on cars I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with full stainless on the GS's??

does it inprove performance??

I would not have them weld the whole exhaust toghther. It's hard enough to get header pipes on without the muffler hanging on the back.

There's no performance gain from stainless

Unless lighter material is used because stainless can be stronger than mild. And then the performance gains would probably be very small.

Stainless is more about longevity than performance. If it would hold up to the heat you could make it out of wood.

If they're going to "do you a favor" as an educational experience, have them do it correctly.

A 4-1 collector is fine...most of us with aftermarket exhausts run 4-1 setups.

The best thing they can do for you, though, is make separate exhaust manifolds.
!

Spoke to the guys today and they said that they would be able to do the 4-2-1 system instead of the 4-1 :) The issue is that I dont really want to have them stacked like yours, plus which pipes are best to combine at the first collectors?? Should it be 1&4 and 2&3??

I wouldn't go for a 4-2-1 personally. You want your primaries to be as long as possible and there's not enough room to get a proper arrangement going. It would look interesting, though...if you go that route then yes, the ` and 4 and the 2 and 3 need to be the shared combos.
