A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

cyl 3 & 4 don't fire when choke is on when cold. Then they seem to "catch" once it's run with choke for a bit while it stutters. Ease off the choke and it's fires on all four. 3 and 4 are getting gas and spark at all times.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
DB

This the 77 gs550? (put in your signature). I say #1 cylinder is under clutch hand-do you agree?
How long does it take these cylinders to "catch" ? does it run ok, after they "catch" ?

Hi babes.
Well.... Sounds like the choke airways are a wee bit blocked...
it could, i suppose be sticking exhaust valves or compressed exhaust valve springs but i think its probably the choke mechanism/airway thingys...

Im sure someone else will maybe give you a bettet idea... Me, i think id look at it as a fuel efficient starting process.
... But then, i ride a rat-bike!

3 and 4 don't catch right away

3 and 4 don't catch right away

Yes, it is a 1977 GS550. Nice detective work. Sorry I made you work at it - I'm new here.
Yes #1 is under clutch hand. If it is choke airways can these be accessed without removing carb set assembly? I fear I may not like that answer.

It takes three or four minutes to get 3 and 4 to light up. Once that happens she runs fine.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry to say this but it sounds like you will need to pull your carbs and properly dip, clean, replace orings, and synch them. Do it right in order to start from a good baseline or you will be fighting this problem for a long time. Look at Nessism's carb rebuild procedure on Basscliff's website
