Cylinder head gasket

I just purchased a cylinder head gasket for my 82 gs850g. Part number 11141-49410 Suzuki genuine parts. This gasket does not look like the one
I removed. This one is 5 pieces of metal joined together in several p!aces. There is no fiber like gasket with the metal rings that go around the cylinders It's the same part number that my bike calls for. Has anyone ever had one of these gaskets and is it good to use on my bike???I

I recently rebuilt my bike‘s top end and the OEM head gasket you describe is exactly what I got from partsoutlaw, and it is very different from the original gasket I had to scrape off. AFAIK, this is how they make them now, a sort of multi-layer of thin sheets of metal. Don’t know why. But I can imagine it will be easier to remove, if I ever have to, than the original gasket.

The last three I have gotten were MLS (multi-layer steel) gaskets. (Two for an 850 and one for a 1000, I think they are the same part number.) They are reported to work better.

One word of caution, though, do NOT install the rectangular o-ring around the cam chain tunnel.

The MLS gasket will seal that area adequately. I can verify that if you DO install that o-ring, nasty things happen to it. I had to remove the head for another issue and what I saw that happened to that o-ring was NOT pretty.

Thanks for that piece of info. I would have replaced that o-ring. That will save me some headaches.

MLS gaskets are good but you really should have a smooth gasket surface. If your head and/or cylinder are corroded and rough consider having them surfaced.
