If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So i finally get to the bottom of my last problem she's running fine and then the next day I go out and...... a coil is dead!!!

Well that's what I think it is anyway. Correct me if 'm wrong please. Spark plugas are new and good. Wires and cap are good. Two cylinders are firing (2/3) the other two (1/4) are not. Tested for spark with a light and 2/3 have spark, 1/4 don't. Tested the resistance on the accel coils (which are relatively new, about 8 months old but no riding time on them) and the secondaries are the same but the primaries are reading about 7 ohms on 2/3 and just over 1 ohm on 1/4.

If i remember correctly the coils need to be at least 3 ohms for the ignition system to see a proper load and fire a spark. Please let me know if this is incorrect. Either way, I pretty sure it has to be the coil. I checked my connections from the dyna s ignition and as is well, and of course those resistance readings seem like a big red flag to me.

Any one know where i can get just one accel coil? I don't want to have to spend $180 on an entire kit with 2 coils and cables and such if it's just one thats messed up and the other one is practicaly new. Or should i just go with a set of dyna coils? Anyone have any comparison info between these two brands?

Thank you for all of your help in advance.

For sh!ts and giggles switch the coil leads and the two trigger wires to the coils. Not the O/W that goes to both coils.
See if the spark problem moves to the other cylinders.

I've read several reports of failed Accel and Dynatek coils so personally, I'll stay with stock.

Thanks Chef. I'll try that and report back with my findings.

Thanks for the tip, Ness. I've read in several threads here on the forum that Bandit coils will aslo work on our GS's. Does anyone know what year or size bandits we can use the coils from or can we use coils from any bandit? It's easier for me to go down to the store a buy parts for newer bikes than look for parts for an older bike online and wait for shipping. My bike will be my primary transport this summer and would like to get it up and going ASAP.

All the other regular maintenance has been performed already, nowi'm just dealing with this :/ It sucks to be so close to being finished and have to wait for stuff in the mail.

Ok. I didn't try exactly what you had suggested but instead just swapped the coils from one side to the other. Sure enough the problems moved to the other cylinders, now 1/4 fire and 2/3 dont. I figured this method would have the same results as swaping the trigger wire on the coil and swapping the trigger wire on the dyna s being that it would be effectively the same change. I have the coil relay mod and am reading the same voltage at the battery and the coils so I know the relay is good and since the problem changed sides along with the coil, this serves me as a simple enough test that the dyna s is working in good condition. I read about using stock bandit coils and even read about using gsxr coils on these GS's. What year and
size(cc displacement) bandit or gsxr coils should I be looking for? I know they made many displacement bandits, from 400 to 1200 I believe. Just wondering if the coil from a 400 would be the same as one from a 1200.

I don't know for a fact but have heard from others that have said that some Bandit coils are lower resistance than others, and lower than GS bikes should have. You can always add a ballist resistor so no worry I suppose, but just be prepared to go that route if necessary.

Would anyone happen to know how I would have to wire the resistor to the coils to make something like that work? Would I need a resistor for each coil or just one for both of them?
