A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Decal removal from plastic sidepanels

ukjules

Forum Sage
I have been fortunate that I have only had to remove
old decals from metal . hence me using wheat gun
and sanding down panel.

Gsx 250
plastic side panels and rear section :

how have people got decals off plastic ?
hairdryer? a chemical ?

I've had pretty good results getting stickers/decals off of just about anything with Goof-Off. Once you get under one corner, it'll get in there and get to work. I don't know what it will do to the paint. But I've never had it damage anything.

I'm not sure we have anything similar over here. If the OP can find something similar, great. I'm doing some plastics at the moment with 180 grit wet and dry to remove the stickers, then working through the grades to 600 prior to paint. End result is fine, but the work is a bit tedious.

Thanks for input.
I want to try and get off without messing paint work.
There must be a solvent that will do the job here.

update goof off available on ebay. 9?.

I'll try a low heat air gun or hairdryer first.
will keep up with this thread as be good to know .
I'll add pics of issue

Is there a clear coat over the decals? That makes removal just a little bit trickier.

.

that's a good point !

without clear: I'll try isopropyl first.

with clear : suppose have to be paint stripped and
resprayed totally.

It's quite tricky to get these old transfers off without buggering up the original finish. As the phrase goes- Do No Harm...First, I would surround the label with masking tape and gently sand any coating off inside the tape's protection...and then a hot rag from boiling water and wooden (maybe soft plastic) scrapers (popsicle sticks..) Heatguns can so easily damage the underlying paint. ( I know of this damage removing pinstripes from a 400E, but I suppose very carefully done, a heatgun Can work)

Acetone and laquer thinner attack laquers and much else (if that's what the coating is) but doing so without destroying the surrounding and underneath is difficult.

Goof-off can work and is the first to try but I'd try Lighter fluid next. (for zippo type lighters) with a qtip . It works very well for gummed labels- and as a petrolem, (naptha based) it shouldn't attack the underlying paint too much
