Delkevic Pipe fitting (or other pipe with separate head pipes to collector - 3 piece)

Anyone fit a Delkevic & have any tips?

I tried bolting up the 4 head pipes & then sliding the collector in place (this is a test fit, it comes with some black RTV to use on the joints when you buy it).

It's not that simple as (and I've found this with all aftermarket & stock pipes to some degree) the pipes need some pushing & shoving to fit.

I'm thinking it might be better to fully seat the pipes in the collector, put the springs on & then offer it up like you would with a V&H or something. That's my next move just wondering if someone can validate it...

The frame is freshly painted (as is the engine) so I don't want to do a bunch of paint damage if I can help it.

Thoughts, tips...?

I tried fitting the Delko like I'd always fitted 4-1s, with it all assembled and offered up.
No dice, tried for ages and it was like wrestling an octopus.

Then put the downpipes on the head loosely and offered the collecter up to them, slipping it over the pipes easily - took ten minutes.
There's only one way they fit anyway, so you can't go wrong. If you do get it wrong, the springs won't fit.
Interestingly (or not, for very small values of interest) the Delko pipes 2 and 3 are to the bottom and 1&4 to the top of the collector - which is totally reversed from the arrangement on the other 4-1s I have.

Yeah maybe I'll have to loosen them off at the head a bit & try that first. Looks like a decent pipe. The pipes & collectors have numbers on them so tough to mess up I guess! Sits closer to the sump than my Marving on the Skunk, smaller dia head pipes too.

Red high-temp RTV here, was just enough to do the job if the first try was perfect. Since I had numerous tries and wasted the supplied tube, I used locally available high-temp RTV for stove exhaust pipes.
Other things I've tried in the past that work well, are Firegum (and other exhaust putties) and when I had nothing else to hand, tile cement. I'd found tile cement worked well on an oil burner flue, it also served this purpose on a bike exhaust.

i think I did mine the way Grimly did. It did take awhile to figure it out. I noticed for a bit afterwards that the rubber on the springs will start melting/smelling. It was just something I stopped worrying about. It finally went away.

Yeah, every time I stopped, for at least 100 miles, there would be a stink that smelled like hot oil and it had me looking all over for the mysterious leak.

I'm guessing that it doesn't ship well & the US distributor adds it as it's made in the US.

I mounted mine just like a regular 4 into 1, once the headers are loosely bolted to the head I had to pull/twist the collector a little to the right to have everything lined up.The exhaust has a nice fit and finish for the price. I really like the thick flange. Keep in mind this is not a performance oriented exhaust.
It was on my gs1000 for only 30 miles then I switched back to the Bassani. I just don't like the sound of it, i'm sure its because of the much longer number 1 pipe.The GS sounded like a Honda cb650 with aftermarket muffler...After 11 years and 6 different 4-1 exhausts I've never heard this sound. It's as if I'm hearing 1 cylinder run over top of the 4-1, kind of hard to describe.

Do you get the noise start to appear around 4500 to 5K and get louder and harder?
I noticed the peculiar off-beat noise and was wondering if anyone else had - difference with mine is, the intake is very non-standard, but the previous exhaust system (Motad 4-1) had never sounded anything other than fairly even.

Yes, it sound like I was followed by a Honda ct70 or monkey.
This is the only reason the Delkevic is not on my bike anymore.
I have a GK top end on my GS1000c with K&N.

Took me about 10 minuets or so to fit my Delkevic pipes to my 850. Just hang the headers loose and slip em into the collector. I kinda like my pipes they look good with good quality and couldn't beat the $200 price.

Mask fresh paint with painters tape. Leave it loose for removal. Fit all pipes loose with no sealant. Tighten exhaust assy to the point of where they will closely be permanently hung. Mark all joints with a magic marker for reference during reassembly. Reassemble with sealant, clean up magic marker and sealant, install. I've never used sealant and had leak. Might be lucky?

Yes they are on now. The only real issue was the pipe hanger supplied was a little short & needed the top bend tweaking.

I also added a piece of angle with the centrestand bung fixed on it to the the back so the stand is now stopped on the right not the left. Looks cleaner than having the original bracket on the left hanging out in the breeze!
