    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Dented and rusted tank... Ideas?

Any ideas on what I can do? I'm not too keen on bodywork of the tank. I was thinking just bondo and shape? I will obviously need to get rid of the rust before I do any of this though.

You can pull out at least some of those dents with one of those cheap glue-on dent puller thingies. They actually work pretty good but you need to work the dent a little at a time and takes patients.

Is there a doctor in the house? I don't think that tank needs major surgery. ;)
 
Yeah, use the glue on stud dent puller.
I always take the old tanks to a local radiator shop that blasts the interior and bakes on an epoxy coating for $60.

I looked at the glue-on dent pullers and... well, they aren't exactly what I had imagined when you said cheap ($200-$300, unless I am completely missing something) though they look nifty :)

I'll probably be trying that in the next few weeks. Hopefully, it works well on the smaller dents like mine :D
 
Strip the paint from the tank, solder on some roofing nails and use a dent puller?
 
drill a hole, mount an eye hook,attach chain to truck,put tank between 2 trees,put it in 4 low n drive.Sory couldnt resist haha
 
I like nessims idea tho.,But that dent needs a lil work before fill ,n get that line right,with my eyes anyhow.
 
Another idea;:idea: Some dents may partially disappear with the application of air pressure to the tank. Stick an air nozzle in the filler hole, seal with a shop towel as best as possible and give it a shot. This might pop out the larger dent to some extent.
The smaller dents can be helped along with a dolly on a stick. You will have to make this. Use 3/8" or 1/2 " round rod or a piece of rebar. Shaping it to get it into the tank can take some time. A small smooth end about an inch in diameter should be attached, welded, to the end of the rod. Use it to do offset dolly work. It needs to be placed in the middle of the dent, force applied and then lightly hammer around the edges of the dent. This approach will only work on the sides of the tank nearest the filler, not towards the rear as you won't be able to get a very long dolly in the tank.
Just food for thought. I've done both of these methods. Bondo the rest.

This may give you and extra gallon or so of fuel capacity in your round puffy tank.
 
I used a chemical rust remover and bondo on my tank. It worked really well! I left the dent in the tank to give my bike some character :)
