A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi Folks,

I'm in the process of dipping my carbs and decided that I should replace the stripped, stock diapgragm cover screws with some hex head screws. Well, I made the trip to the local store and picked up the replacements, but I forgot to pick up the of the washers. I noticed that some of the screws that I removed had washers, and some did not. With that said, are the washers essential?

Thanks,
Daniel

What do you think??? Like the look better with or without? At the least a flat washer will prevent the screws from digging into the cover metal, but other than that i dont see any catastrophic failure if they arent there.

Washers, we don't need no stinkin washers :) Infact, I don't ever recall seeing washers on any of the 10 or 12 sets I've worked on over the last 8 years.

Someone added them, methinks.

cheers,
Spyug

What I have found in the dozen or so sets of carbs that I have worked on is that the float bowl screws will have lock washers on them, but the diaphragm screws do not.

Your carbs may vary.

Just checked the parts fiche, and it confirms what Steve had to say about it. Diaphragm covers do not, however the float bowl screws have a lock washer.
