    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I own a 1980 GS450E. I cut off the exhaust pipes right behind the silencers (I don't know what's it called, but it was the last 4 inches of the exhaust pipes), anyhow the bike is really loud, the pipes are straight shot now.
Well the problem is after I cut the pipes off the bike started acting up I don't know if is too reach or too lean, it back fires out of the right cylinder, the RPM's are all over the place it surges it stalls, black smoke is coming out of the left exhaust. I mean you need some back pressure for a good performance, but did I really mess things up by cutting the pipes if so can I fix this problem by installing supertrapp plates and creating some back pressure. Thanks you in advance to anyone with some info.

(it's probably not to rich, it is most likely to lean)

(probably not, what is left to bolt them too?)

(Buy a used exhaust system or get an aftermarket one, put it on and throw away the hacksaw.)

Motorcycle engines are finely tuned to the exact way they were when they came from the factory. Changes to the exhaust or the intake system will throw things all off. If you install different air filters you will need to rejet the carbs. The same goes for the exhaust. Rejetting is not for the mechanically challenged. As a mater of fact seasoned mechanics can have a hard time. You need a basic understanding of how these carbs work In your case you effectively don't have an exhaust. Just a loud bike that doesn't run right. You can't drive this thing on the road without risking getting a ticket anyway, so just fix it back right and enjoy the bike.

I got to say it what where you thinking??? take the bike down to a good muffler shop and have them weld the mufflers back on, should not be a problem if you did a clean cut, and have the hard ware, make sure they are good with a torch, if they arc weld it unplug the ignition box, as a precaution, butt the mufflers back up and mount them by the muffler tabs and they should alin perfect for the welding
 
You can get a brand new MAC 2 into 1 from Dennis Kirk for about $200 or email someone who is parting one of those out on ebay to see if they have a good set.
