    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Do you think flushing will help...

Get rid of the 30+ year old accumulated crud in my brake system? I'd really need to ride this thing to work tomorrow... :eek:

This is what was dug out of my brake master cylinder today and that doesn't include what had gotten washed out in the cleaning tank or made its way onto my rag.

Need I say anything else?

I think i would have flushed that one down instead of putting it on a rag and showing pics of it to the forum.
 
I blew my nose and it looked similar once. I had a terrible sinus infection.
 
Sorry gents, it was just my idea of sarcasm.

I don't really need to ride it to work tomorrow, in fact the bike in a zillion pieces. that's the master cylinder off my 78 GS1000E. I made this post up for those that THINK they can get away without completely tearing down the brake system on a thirty something year old, never been serviced it's whole life motorcycle.

Ed, I haven't had a chance to really inspect the bore yet. But, so far with a casual glance at it and the piston, it looks real promising for all the crap I dug out of it.

Ed, I looked at the bore through my 5X eye loupe. The loupe's depth of field isn't as great as I'd like it so that I can examine the complete length of the bore (it's a 1-1/2" focus), but other than the hardened crud on the bores surface, the reservoir, cap and rubber parts being trash can material, it looks like it survived very well.

I'll throw it in the carb dip bucket tomorrow and know for sure.
 
If, by "flushing", you are referring to flushing the whole system into the trash, yeah, it'll be just fine.

Front wheels locking up unannounced at high speed is just part of the thrill of riding old unmaintained pieces of crap.
 
No worries my brother..I know a guy that has a good one in a box VERY close by. let me know before the other "starving biker survival kit" is mailed off. You do realise that bike is eventually gonna be at least 1/3 mine...dont you???
 
Chuck, more like 25%. ;)
That is unless you count your labor for engine removal. I'm guessing something on the order of 50% isn't original to the bike.
