    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does ricks stator plug into polaris R/R?

Just ordered polaris R/R and I'm shopping for a new stator to pair with it. It almost looks like ricks stator will plug right into the triumph wiring harness that I'm matching with the new R/R can anyone confirm this? Trying to eliminate as much error on my part on the install as possible. Whole I'm asking what's the general consensus on the best stator brands for these bikes? I'm working on a 1980 gs450l. Thanks
 
The "best" stator brand is whatever you happen to buy at a price that makes you happy. Some are all enthused about Rick's, others like Electrosport, others like Caltric. Then there are those that like ... you know, the rest of them.

A couple of my bikes have Caltric stators, others have stators that have been re-wound. Almost all have series regulators.

Not sure how much a Rick's stator costs nowadays, but a Caltric will run about $50. "Plug right in"? Nothing that a few connectors and some wire won't fix. Just be sure to run the stator wires DIRECTLY to the inputs on the R/R and the output from the R/R to the red wire that your old R/R used to feed. Then run your R/R ground wire directly to a GOOD ground, if not directly to the battery. If you subscribe to the "Single Point Ground" theory, run it there.

Thanks for the response. I have had a charging issue with this bike since I got it. I replaced battery, stator, and R/R with new ones (both caltric) probably close to a year ago and it seemed to fix the problem temporarily but now it's back. I haven't felt confident enough in my electrical abilities to do much with cleaning up the wiring. Should I be worried if I put all this new stuff on it might just get cooked again sometime soon?
