If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Does the GS650G have a secondary drive lube like the 850/1000+???

I have researched on Bikecliff's site and don't seem to see the information. Nor Can I find it in the service manual.

I was looking over a 650G and don't seem to see the drain and fill like on the 850/1000. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rich

No, it gets lubed by the engine oil that creeps into the drive cavity. There is a seperate drain screw for it though...hard to see, so use a mirror just inside of gear shift lever at crankcase bottom

No, the secondary drive of the 650G does not have a separate gear lube housing. It is in the engine oil. (as Tom said).

I will further say that this is one of a few things that are different about the 650s from all the other GS models.

Thanks guys.

1 more oddity. I've taken 2 gs650s apart. 1 E and 1 G. One engine had oring under the base gasket going aroung the rear outer most studs and the oil jet in the corners. The other did not have anything. The orings were a figure "8" without the center touching. Are there supposed to be o rings in this location? I believe the E had them.

Thanks again team.

Rich

Please keep in mind that the E and G engines are rather different.

The E is a low oil pressure, roller bearing engine that is somewhat based on the 550.

The G is a high oil pressure, plain bearing engine, not sure if it was based on any existing GS engine.

There are other differences, too, so don't go mixing and matching random parts. I found that the cam sprockets are different. I tried putting E cams in a G because they looked better. After putting the chain on and lining everything up, I did the usual two full turns of the crank by hand. Made it just over 1 1/2 turns and it locked up SOLID. Had to remove the chain to free things up enough, then tried again. And again. Then I noticed that the cam sprockets seemed a little small. Compared them with the original sprockets, the E sprockets had 2 fewer teeth. Because of the tooth count mismatch, the cam had the valves opening at the wrong time, causing them to hit the pistons. Could have been disasterous if I had just put stuff together and hit the starter button.

Back to your question, ... look at the parts fiche for each bike to see if it should be there.

.

Thanks Steve. I hadn't thought of the parts fiche.

I swapped the top end from the old G to the New G bottom I got from you.
