A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does this sound like a coil issue??

I was using a colortune to set my mixture screws (THANKS AGAIN Fare!!!) and I had no problem setting 2 & 4. But 1 & 3 I had a bitch of a time. I couldnt keep the cylinder firing. Like the spark was to weak cause the spark was there but I had to keep wiggling and bending things to get it to fire. I managed to get it with a little work and guestimation but I was thinking about it.

What I saw would explain my popping because the gas builds up in the chamber and then randomly ignites at steady idle and decel when I am on the throttle the spark seems strong enough and 1 & 3 are on the same coil...

Does that sound right to anyone? If it does anyone got a good spare coil lol

Could be wires or plug caps. For the $120 (coils) & $16 (wires) from Z1 it's the best upgrade you can get for the money.

I fixed a lot of similar sins on my old 550 when I just replaced the coils.

The coils on the bike both bench tested OK, but they clearly were not up to spec when energized.

Yea thats about exactly what I was thinking after what I saw. I was thinking of going OEM. Complete replacement will be about $200.

How do you like the colortune plugs? I've just bought one on e-bay & haven't used it yet.

Listen to Hikermikem, I put new dyna coils on my GS550 ES and a direct relay from the battery to the coils and my by purrs. Thanks Distraction628 for recommending the dynas to me last year.

The one I am using belongs to another member here and its a little bit older than the current ones I think but it works very well (Well on 2 & 4 anyway lol). Aside from it not igniting very well on 1 & 3 and me having to wiggle the wires about to get some sort of position to give me a steady fire it works as advertised. And after you use it you will notice a big difference. Mine were only off a little bit but that little bit was corrected and it feels 100% better.

With good coils and a new color tune you should be done in 15 minutes or so.

Well, I played around with my new colortune toy on the 1100G this afternoon. I must say, I never got it to show yellow, even when I shut down the cylinder by turning the adjustment screw all the way in!

Eventually I just as used it as an indicator it show when the cylinder was firing smoothly, as depicted by a steady blue ring (compared to a pulsating blue ring when VERY lean). Set all the cylinders using that method and there seemed to be a noticable improvement in both idle & power. I also reduced the popping on de-acel as well.

So overall it was helpful, but I'm a bit mystified as to why I never saw the yellow lean color?

Yeallow/Orange is rich and to see it you have to screw out. Screwing in will make the flam a lighter blue to white. Screw out till it is orange then slowely screw in till all the orange is gone. Remember to let the carb stabalize after each 1/4 - 1/2 turn.

Thanks again for the heads up too on the coils!

Did I mention I was color blind (or just stupid). I guess that would explain why I never saw the yellow!
