    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi Guys,

I was talking to a medic about the new kind of helmets that let the whole front flip up and he was a little wearing of them. Apparently they are very difficult to remove from a patient with one hand. First aid providers need to be able to hold your neck stable while removing the helmet and he said it is very difficult if at all possible for one person to do this. Does anybody else share this view point or have a rebuttal? I really like the idea of these helmets as long as they are as safe as a regular full face helmet. I have a heck of a time licking envelopes at the bank machine when I'm depositing my pay checks. :lol:

i have a HJC flip helmet that i might buy from a friend, yes they are not snell rated cause they treat them like a open face helmet, i dont think im gonna buy it, im just not sure about the flip thing.

My HJC open face helmets are Snell approved.
 
my frind has one it fell of his bike in the grass and broke
now the chin bar dosn't lock only fell of seat and not hard
so i dont think there too safe
 
No offence NO1, but this is a US forum: Speak Spanish, please !! :lol:

Here in Europia we have of course the CE standards. Most flip-ups confirm to this. Even the cops have them. Still, I am riding with a ROOF helmet but would not challenge the chin-piece. Concerning the story from the medic: I am not sure where the problem of removing lies. Is it the lock that is causing the problem? :?:
 
I've never had to remove a flip face helmet. I have removed full face and open face helmets, funny though never had to remove a beanie (they were usually already off lying in the ditch). I would suspect the problem with removing it is that getting a firm handle on the front of the helmet would be difficult (the face flips up and is bulky). On an open face you can get a grip at the top and on a full face the chin bar. The balance would also be different i suspect as you have two bulky parts, face and helmet where the full face and open are just one unit. Just my two cents on the subject. Motomedic is from warmer climates and probably would have more experience.

I have a NOLAN helmet with the flip up front and I love it. It locks down very securely into place and is super easy to get on off. I like it much better then a conventional full face helmet. As for safety and durability wise, I take good care of mine but it has dropepd a few times and nothing is wrong with it. Then again I haven't thrown it at the ground full force either. I paid $400 Cdn for my helmet and am very pleased with it. My suggestion is to go with it. You get the best of both worlds and they are totally safe...Go for it.

I too have a Nolan flip chin helmet. It is the older type with two thumb latches. I hear that it is not very popular because people prefer a single latch design. Doesn't matter to me because I don't open it while I am on the bike riding. There is a new version of the Nolan helmet with a single larger latch button on the left side. I love mine!

MIne is the Shoep Syncrotec flip face sigle latch in centre thing I like about it is ALL the latches are metal not plastic and yes mine is D.O.T. approved but I have also heard that flip faces are not considered full face
 
I have an IXS flip-up helmet. It opens with one hand. It is fiber made (not plastic) and I like it very much as I wear glasses.
In Europe you have a standard for full face helmet called 22-05. Only that norm matters to have a secured full face helmet. Mine as flip-up is also 22-05 approved...
 
I was just on the snell web-page. They said that none of the flip-up chin bar helmets have snell ratings because they have not tested any yet.

don't know if this is still the case, but they havent changed their posting yet, so i would imagine that it is.
 
I have been using mine a year now without any problems....it is very convienient as one can flip up the front and have a conversation at gas stations, or ask for directions etc, (and yes, to lick envelopes at the bank too!) without taking off the helmet.The chin bar locks into place once you pull it fully into the "down' position and then it is the same as a full face helmet.....I don't see why it would be more difficult (or any different)to take off than a normal helmet, because the chin bar stays locked in the 'down' position when taking it off and putting it on .
I have not seen any info. re. the crash worthiness of one vs the other though......my older helmet is a normal full face Shoei that I prefer using around town as I just leave it with the bike when parked...it does'nt look nice enough to tempt a thief :roll: .
