A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was figuring to cover the inside of the swing arm with some nylon and rivets. Charging will be from a very short and solid ground and the starter positive lead. Because I have the high work surface, I can drop out of the bottom real easy. If I move and can't take the bench with me I'll sell the bike:)

No kidding I just found this thread.....can't leave us hanging like that........I wanna see this project finished!

for your battery idea, if you get an AGM battery, you can turn it anyway but upside down. might help in positioning it.

Do you plan to use the Bandit rubber wear guard to protect the front of the arm from the chain? I never saw Katman address this. I have hacked away (reduced width on both sides and enlarged hole) on the rubber guard that came with my bandit swing arm and have it installed however, the chain doesn't end up being centered on the raised center ridge of the rubber guard. It does keep the chain well off the aluminum though, so I'm leaving it for now.

By the way my machinist cut the rear chain guard mounting tab off in order to mount the shock mounts. I've come up with a pretty fair work around however, it may or may not be a secret. http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/images/icons/icon12.gif

Isleoman, Did you ever get an answer on the rubber chain guard? I pretty much did the same thing as you with the Bandit chain guard and yes my chain does not center up withthe raised center ridge but also think it still helps so it will stay.

I am interested in the chain guard mounting mod but the link that you attatched did not work. I would appreciate it if you could repost the link.

Kichigai,

I've had another person ask me about mounting the bandit chain guard on a bandit swingarm in the GS application. Let me take some pictures and I'll start a new thread on the subject. I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that link.

I just want to let every one who was following this thread know that I am now the owner of this project and I intend to keep you updated on all the progress.

So far the bike is in the same state as you last saw it since i have just un-crated it and have started to take stock of the parts that I have received.

I am very pleased that the bike went to Flatline. Please feel free to take over this thread as well.

The new ones stretch that much? There's no way the old ones are going to get that big.
gday mate, get some boots that are used on the 1150 motor, and when your mate ports the head, get him to do the rubbers at the same time,regards:-D

Hi can you tell me where I can find details of AGM batteries, I'm doing a cafe racer job on my GS550 and need somewhere new for the battery. If I can tilt it or even mount it on its side it would mean my passenger wouldn't have to sit on it!!!

Thanks

Ah!

Ah!

A quick web search and I know all I need and have one on order.

Thanks for posting solved my problem!

So Flatline, how is the continuation coming? Are you going to continue to post under this thread or start a new one?

I think I will start my own thread for this project once I start rolling on it. I just went through a move to my new house so havn't done anything more than getting it to a rolling chassis.

if you could drop a line in this thread when you starta new one, well that'd be nice of you, so we dont miss the new thread :-D

I deleted a bunch of pics from photobucket and now they don't show up on the thread. I didn't realize the mistake at the time.
