    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Drill and tap JB Weld?

I have a stripped out screw hole on the crankcase of my GSXR. It is a 6mm screw that holds the water pump on. I'm wondering if I could fill the hole with JB Weld then drill and tap it. Is JB Weld suitable for this?

No. But I think you knew that. Give it a try. Crank down the bolt as tight as you think it needs to be. If it strips again go up a size or get it welded. If it holds youll be checking it every time you ride.
 
Just heli coil...ie fix a thread, insert...ect. I have done the JB weld thing once like your trying but never on something that needed to seal...just my 2 cents worth....

Drilling and tapping JB Weld is only suitable for the most lightweight of applications. For instance I didn't even have much success doing that with a fender mount. Unfortunately it's not going to work for what you need.

Take a look at Alumalloy, google for it. I haven't used it for what you need it for, but I have seen it used for something close to what you have on the infomercial. Good luck

Have Alumalloy ... unless the surface is prepped PERFECTLY it simply won't work. There are several "second generation" products (HTS-2000, etc.) that exist that are supposed to be much more forgiving. I have some of that, too, and it DOES appear to be easier to work with. The demo video shows various different ways to work with it.

As you know, Joe, I've already responded to your email regarding it, but wanted to share with everybody else...

Interestingly enough JB Weld says 'yes'. I sent them an email and got that reply. But I agree that this wouldn't be the best solution. After doing some research I've decided to use HTS-2000 to 'weld' a piece of round aluminum stock (drilled and tapped) to the crankcase. There's a guy on ebay that sells the HTS-2000 rods for $2.99 apiece so I bought five from him rather than buying a whole pound from the manufacturer. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I also have a broken screw hole on the GS rotor cover so I'll fix that too while I'm at it...............

As stated in previous post I've decided to go ahead and buy a few rods of HTS-2000. The newer generation products are supposed to be much better than the earlier ones so I'll probably have an easier time and better results with the new product. Thanks you very much for the offer of your Alumalloy though!

I wasn't offering you my Alumalloy, Joe ... I was offering you the HTS-2000 I ALSO have. I'll probably never use the Alumalloy since I have the better stuff, and I certainly wouldn't offer it any of my friends unless they specifically asked for it and knew what was necessary to use it. Perhaps my post above wasn't clear enough, but I'm pretty sure I mentioned I had BOTH products.

Let me know when you intend to do these repairs. Perhaps if I'm available I'll swing by and see if I can be of some help.
