DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I started a thread a couple days ago on help in indentifying a project I picked up at the boneyard. I have spent athe good part of his week trying to indentify the bike and starting accumulating parts. I have looked at countless fiches on the Internet. I have a complete 1980 GS1000GL to compare my new project to.

The bike I am working on is void of tank and plastic as well as fenders. It is marked on the tree GSX110-xxxxx and same on motor. The frame is different from my GL in the tank area. GSX is wider where the tank would meet the seat. The gsx has the same front forks...air no adjustments on the bottom of fork. They appear identical to my GL. The plastic from the GL will not fit the GSX..mounting tabs are different.

The GSX frame has an extra brace across the front of the frame. I guess the diagram the frame mostly resembles is a 1980 GS1100LT. SO that's what I am going to call it.

I guess I now own anothe L Model?

SO WHO HAS STUFF/PIECES to SELL me?

PICS coming soon...

PICS coming soon...

I'm going to get some pics and try to point out the differences

Does it look anything like this?

This is the 80 LT, many 750 LT parts will fit, such as the tank.

Well at least I got a pic to work with

Thanks for the pic...Now I know what I'm working on. I going to take some pics of the frame differences between a 1980 1000L and a 1980 1100L maybe they will come in useful for someone else?

I do want to change the handle bars maybe to something like a 19801100E uses?

I gots lot of work to do...winters are long in MT so I got time...

If the cam ends are rectangular and not circular it is a 16 valve.
If the bottom of the forks are leading (the axle goes through in front of the forks instead of the bottom center)

the L and the standard models are generaly NOT that different in the frame (other than the brackets for the tank, rear fender, side covers etc)

the X in the gsx indicates it is a 16v model so that narows it down A LOT
if the forks are original and the wheel axle is mounted IN FRONT of the forks (as chef mentioned) - then thats an L sign
the rear fender would be chromed i think and the seat would definitely be stepped

but as steve said... shoot us a pic, man!

dont worry, cos the 1000L is a shaftie and the 1100 is chain driven and the engines are 8v vs 16v, so they are easy to tell apart

He has pics in another thread. It is an 80 GS1100LT for SURE! I would know.
