If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

They don't have the 650 listed as a fit on the list. Howver, I have read that the ignitors are interchangeable between the 550 - 650 - and 750. Any thoughts?

This is the one I was thinking would fit?

Be sure of whether your bike is KD or ND ignition. KD points are held onto the breaker plate with two hold down screws. ND pointsets are held in place with only one screw.

just select the coils with the same resistance (ohm value) as your stock coils
if an exact match is not availale err towards the higher resistance (as selecting a lower resistance may cause the coils to burn)

if its a chain drive model it has kokusan transistorized ignition and a shaftie has the nippon denso transistorized igniton if that helps.

sorry for my previous post, my bad, you're after the ignitor, not coils...

(so, follow earlfor's suggestion)

It appears there is some mismatch of information and question in your post.
You're asking if ignitors are interchangable between the 550/650/750. Then you say "this is the one I was thinking would fit DSC-1.

DSC-1 is a Dyna ingition system, not an ignitor box. Dyna systems do NOT use an ignitor box. One cannot be used with a Dyna system and none is included that you may retrofit to your original ignition system

If you install a Dyna ststem, you remove and deposit the old ignitor box in the trash can along with the stock breaker plate/crankshaft triggers or points. The end of the shaft on the mechanical advance (where the rotor fits) is what determines whether you need an ND or KD style Dyna. It is the fitment of the rotor that requires that choice and that is the only difference between the two styles.

Ok, thanks for the help so far. I appreciate it...

Yes, I know I don't need the ignitor with the Dyna unit.... I just meant - if other ignition parts are interchangeable between models, than the Dyna unit must be?

The bike has the ND ignition. So I would need the ND Dyna S unit. However, the Dyna site lists the ND unit as fitting up to 1981 - the bike is an 82? Is this a problem, or is the dyna fit guide not entirely accurate?

Thanks

The big question is whether you have a mechanical timing advance unit. If you have one already, you're set. Get the one that matches your ignition (sounds like ND) and it should bolt right up.

If you don't have the mech advance you'll have to source one from an older bike and install it. Not too difficult.

To check if you have the mech advance, open the timing cover and check for a plate with weights and such.
