Hello forum,
Have taken the plunge and fitted Dyna S ignition 3.0 Ohm coils and 8mm Taylor leads to my 1977 GS750D.
Checked the timing with a strobe light and looking at 1-4 through the little window on points plate the line at the top now lines up with the F and when rev to 2300 RPM it moves in line with the 4 then when do the 2-3 the F lines up with the line and again at 2300 RPM the 3 is lined up
Am I thinking that this is right? The bike starts with no problem but does not seem to rev that cleanly? So would that likely to be the ignition not set 100% or maybe a carb issue?
As usual thank you for information regards the above problem!

Regards

I don't know about lining up with the 4 and the 3 when the engine is revved, there should be another line (unmarked) that should be the advanced firing mark.

.

rev it to 5 and make sure it is advancing all the way to the advance line. if not then strip, clean and lubricate the mechanical advance unit.

Wasn't there a problem with the Dyna S rotor in some applications that would cause the mechanical advance to bind? I think they shipped a washer with the units to prevent that if you needed it.

Yes there was, i believe they send out all the kits with the washer now, so it is there if you need it.

Have a washer with the kit. Assume it goes on below the magnet and then reset ignition and try again!
Thanks for the input

Suppose that would help! lol, too busy watching youtube video's on how to do it and looking at forum write up's. Better find the instructions out

Have found out instuctions for the kit which said nothing about a washer when fitting however there was a seperate sheet saying:
Please note
This kit contains a spacer that must be used when the system is installed on a late model Suzuki with factory electronic ignition. The rotor is first installed as specified and the spacer is then put in place prior to replacing the advancer on the engine.
On late models that have factory electronic ignition with electronic advance, it will be necessary to install a mechanical advance assembly from an earlier model, such as a GS 1000. The DYNA ignition then replaces all the factory ignition components, except the ignition coils.

So I am assuming that a 1977 GS750 is not a late model and it didn't have electronic ignition so I don't believe I need the washer?

That would sound correct.

Did mean the line just to the right of the number 3 and 4

the cylinders 1-4 and 2-3 fire together so there are separate marks for each. If 1-4 is set correctly 2-3 should be close but can be adjusted if necessary by loosening the tiny Allan screws on the 2-3 module and moving the module until the lines match for 2-3.

To little wagon, you are correct that the washer (spacer) is NOT needed on your older bike.
I just finished converting my 79 over to a Dyna and I had a problem with the rotor in the Dyna kit. When I installed it and then put the hex head washer over it then the bolt to hold it all together, the rotor would not turn.

Turns out that the rotor sent to me had a number imprinted on it -- a 6 -- and after talking to dyna tech, they agreed that I should have had a rotor with the number "5" imprinted on it. They sent it to me and it was just a tiny bit shorter allowing the rotor to turn after the hex head washer and bolt were installed.

They told me it had something to do with some later model standard points bikes needing different rotors. Some needed the #5 rotor while others needed the #6 rotor.
