A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello

I'm starting to reconsider my ignitor hunting and maybe I should buy a complete dynatek system instead. What do you think dear GS'ers? And where do I get one that fits my GS 450 1981?

Cheers

I replaced my ignitor/sending unit with a Dynatek, and I liked it.
Call Z1Enterprises to see if one is available for your bike.

Methinks that would be one EXPENSIVE call from his location.
.

Yep, about $4.00 if the call lasts a half an hour (I have friends in Sweden). The hardest part is getting the time zone thing down. ;)

Don't you guys use Skype? Calls from any internet connection anywhere in the world are next to free, cost isn't even a consideration anymore.

I think it's .8 cents a minute or something like that to call a land line in the US.

I called Z-1 from India a while ago just because I was bored at 3AM.

Why use Skype when it costs me $.01 a minute to call there. :p

The DS3-3C kit will work with the two valve per cylinder 80 - 82 GS450's... I know because I have one :D

This kit will replace your coils as well, so don't forget to get a set of plug leads as well.

When you purchase it, you will need to request that they provide the spacer needed for the rotor as the kit is designed for the earlier points ignitions on the 400's and 425's and they have a shorter rotor than the 450's.

The guys are very helpful at Dynatek, so make sure you tell them the model of your bike. You can mention I sent you, but they will probably say... who? :p

I'd like to put in a word for customer service at Dynatek. I had a lead on one of my ignition coils fail. I sent the coil to them and they shipped a replacement coil back to me free of charge. I didn't even have to produce a receipt! Good service.

Dynatek quoted me $45 shipping to Ireland, which I found a bit excessive, but nevertheless they were willing to do it.

With the dollar being as low as it is that wasn't too much was it? I hate decissions. Hopefully I'll be able to borrow one ICU box first to be 100% sure that really is the problem since I'm only 95% sure...

Hi Pete, you mentioned this 'This kit will replace your coils as well, so don't forget to get a set of plug leads as well.', i didnt get any with my kit and now i am worried!

The leads (7.5mm i think) i bought locally 'swim' in the coil hole and I have no way of securing them! Please, Please what can i do! (I am pleading because i am about 98% finished my resto).
Dave

Sorry Dave, replied to your PM a minute ago... I got my plug leads from Dynatek as well and they give you clips for the coil and plug ends with a rubber boot to seal it up as well... they clip onto the coil like the plug end but it's recessed into the coil... hope that makes sense!

Did you ever try this as I was thinking its my best option and one of his reviews said it was for his gs450
