A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Ok the bike is a 1982 GS850G with that stupid 3rd gen ignition with the advance in the box under the seat. A little history. 1992 main ground wire burned (my own stupidiity), the ground wire ganged in a bunch of other grounds including the one to the magic ignition module. I repaired that in the spring as well as new stator from Ricks. Bike still ran, sometimes the main harness had to be wiggled to get all 4 to fire. Then the bike sat and I tried to clean the carbs, this made it run better, sort of, it was still weak as if 2 cylinders were not firing. Off to the shop for proper carb cleaning. Problem still there. It runs ok cold, progressively getting worse and loss of power in 5 miles or so. Thinking things over, the box or ignitor is 38 years old, took 12v through the ground wire and is a stator failure survivor, so it is either going or gone.

I ordered up the Dyna S ignition, got ahold of the advance, timing plate, and hardware; brought all to mechanic. He says it won't fit, although all he did was look. I haven't looked at the ignition, but it doesn't make sense that Suzuki would make a change to the engine case to fit the 3rd gen ignition plate. Apparently the 1982 GS850GZ takes the 3rd gen ignition, and the 1982 GS850GLZ takes the second gen with the advance on the crankshaft. Has anyone done a 1982 GS850GZ Dyna S ignition install? One thing I didn't check was 12v to both coils replaced less than 2000 miles ago.

Thanks in advance

Val Vascik
