DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

FLATout?

I picked up a DynoJet 3103.003 kit to install into the Mikuni BS34 carbs on my 1980 GS1000ET, and I'm immediately having issues with the install of the adjustable slide needles, or rather the removal of the non-adjustable stock needles. What tool do I need to remove the upper spring clip seen in the picture below?

Slide barrel

The height (~2 in) and width (~1 in) of the slide barrel produces restriction that will be hard to overcome. The clip itself has eyelets.

Another choice would be the 5 1/2" long nose pliers from Sears.

You might find them at some K-Marts, too, since the two stores have merged. :-k

You might have to take a little bit of the sharp edge off the tips to round them a bit to fit in the eyelets, but the pliers themselves work perfectly.

I was having issues getting the circlips out of the slides on my BS32 carbs with needle nose pliers. I broke down and finally bought the Motion Pro tool that Sci85 linked to. Most aftermarket vendors sell them, I think I bought mine on Amazon. They're commonly called "Honda Master Cylinder Circlip Pliers" or something similar.

eil, were these the pliers you mentioned?

Motion Pro pliers

With the 90-degree bend, you think they'll be long enough to reach the snap-ring at the bottom of the slide barrel?

The DJ kit for the sixteen valve 1100s is part number 3133.
Wait there was not a 1980 GS1000 ET

A set of cheap needle nose pliers that have had their tips "customized" with a bench top grinder work very well... pick up a few pair at Harbor Freight & keep them around for future projects like master cylinder retaining rings.

Also, take note of the backside of that pointy plastic piece the snap ring is holding when you remove it - there are small projections that fit into the mating slide only "one way".

I found drilling the slide was a bit tougher than I expected... that hole is drilled through at an angle, so don't push the drill straight down when you go to open it up.
