    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

as many have said, fitting the carbs on these bikes can be a real PITA :-s
the following may help a novice (as myself)

the user's manual suggests to fit the rubber hoses to the airbox first and then fit that assembly to the back of the carbs
i spent an annoying couple of hours with unsatisfying results doing it this way:
  • the air-hoses just wouldn't stay in place (kept sliding off the carbs) - regardless of weather i tried to fasten the airbox mounting bolts first or the hose clamps first
  • i could tighten 1 or 2 hose clamps on one side ok but the two hoses on the other side would be quite off - and when adjusting those two, the first two would come off, etc
  • i found it rather difficult trying to tighten a clamp with one hand while holding the whole airbox assembly in its correct place with the other hand (i tried using my leg too... :shock: )
  • if i bolted the airbox first, i could no longer make fine adjustments of the 4 air-hoses needed to tighten all the clamps in place
  • not to mention the skinned nuckles from working in such a limited space
so, i changed my approach:
  1. fit the air hoses to the carbs FIRST - this is easy as you have plenty of space to work on them, and positioning/fastening the clamps is easy as well - as the airbox is still off the bike and you can use both your hands!
  2. THEN, fit the airbox, sliding the air-hoses into the airbox round openings. a little silicone lubricant on the rubber helps. again, as the hoses are already tight on the carbs you have both your hands available to position the airbox correctly and fasten it in place (keep the airbox mounting bolts loose for the time being).
  3. now, through the airbox SIDE openings (take the airbox side covers off), using a pair of L-shaped long-nose pliers, PULL the rubber hoses into their place (until a groove in the rubber sits well in the airbox round opening). the lubricant already used helps at this stage, too.
  4. re-fit airbox side covers and tighten the airbox mounting bolts.

i'm definitely doing it this way from now on \\:D/

that only works on shafties as the lowly chain driven bikes (the big ones atleast) have a two part air box system.
the front part connects to the carbs and has no side covers and the back half that holds the filter clamps onto the large flange sticling out of the back of the front one.
 
I switched to pods. I did wrestle with the airbox more than a few times and it did get easier and easier as I went.
Now my carbs take five minutes to remove and five minutes to install. :-D
 
That is almost exactly how I fitted the hoses and air box on my 1000G.

betcha i got it down to two...lol...that isnt a good thing either:-D
