A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well it seems the electrics are all dead. There are also a lot of plugs hanging out not plugged into anything. Anybody know of a wiring diagram so i can start fixing? Also is there a second fuse box or just the one?
Thanks for ya help :)

Oh some more info.
Will turn over if you use a light jumper cord to bypass strait to the battery, and the engine will run once started but will not charge (going to hopefully look after that tomorrow)

Thanks for any help.

I just happen to have a color diagram scanned, will send it to you right away. \\:D/

.

That is absolutely fantastic thanks, you are the man.

This reminds me of one of the Volvo round the world boats (the one that sank ironically enough) in that hey had the design team in france and the build team in australia (maby if it was built in NZ it would not have sunk?) Anyway they said it was good because the build team would work for a day then have a 30 min meeting with the design crew on any problems they had, then they would go home. Once they got in in the morning the solutions to all the problems would be ready for them, and i can see how well it works.

Thanks heaps.

Well spent some time today going around and playing. Will still need a new instrument cluster for compliance but i have found a few things out.

The regulator is OK. I did not run the engine today so the rest of the tests will have to wait.

If i do have to replace the generator where exactly is it on the bike? Also the starter dose not always engage, will this mean new starter or just some use?

Thanks for the help :)
I have found that one of the earth connections was, well not really there. Have re instated it and now the indicators work. Could the earth not being present stop the charging?

It would also appear that even with the key off there is juice going out of the battery and have probably ****ed a brand new battery :(

Thanks for the help :)

If you didn't run the engine, how do you know the regulator is OK? The only way to check the regulator is to run the engine and observe the output voltage.

What you are calling "generator" is more correctly called an "alternator" and consists of a rotating magnet and coil assembly on the left end of the crank. That's LEFT end, under your clutch hand.

Also the starter dose not always engage, will this mean new starter or just some use?
Do you hear the solenoid clicking when you push the starter button? Are you aware that the clutch must be pulled to engage the starter? Could be dirty contacts in the starter button, dirty contacts in the solenoid or dirty brushes in the starter motor itself.

Could the earth not being present stop the charging?
Very much so. In fact, one of the things that is commonly done to assure proper operation is to run a separate wire from the rectifier/regulator assembly straight to the negative terminal of the battery.

It would also appear that even with the key off there is juice going out of the battery and have probably ****ed a brand new battery :(
Time to start pulling fuses in an orderly manner to see which circuit is at fault. Could also be the ignition key. Do NOT park the bike with the key in the PARK position, that leaves the tail light on. Leave the bike in OFF or LOCK.

Oh, this forum is "G" rated, so please watch the language.

Oh lol thanks. (kicks self after just being sent off another forum for bad words) Dad (who is a sparky and has been playing with motorbikes for years)spent 30 min going over the regulator with a multimeter.
Thanks

Dad ... spent 30 min going over the regulator with a multimeter.
Keep in mind that what you are calling a regulator is actually a rectifier/regulator assembly. Yes, you can check the diodes in the rectifier with a multimeter and verify that they are OK, but the regulator part of it has to be tested by running the engine.
