DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Emblem Removal

I have new emblems to go on my generator and ignition covers. What would the best way to take off the old ones?

I don't want to start using a regular screw drive but was thinking a putty knife maybe??? I could heat up the emblem with a heat gun first then try prying the emblem off.

Also, is the glue/adhesive that is already on the emblem enough to hold on the emblem?

Nothing came up using the search function.

Thanks!

gently prise them off with a knife. you will not get them off with out some sort of damage.
make sure the surfaces are perfectly clean and free from old glue.
if they are genuine suzuki emblems then the adhesive backing is more than strong enough to keep them stuck on

At this point i'm not too concerned about the old emblems. If i don't have a need for them then i will give them to someone.

Didn't know if heating them up would losen the glue up enough to pry them off. I'll see what happens.

I would try the heating, it won't make them fall off but it will make the adhesive more flexible. If you have really nice engine covers and want to protect them, use a couple layers of tape or a thin shim to leverage your tool against.

I suppose it's possible to cut through the midle of the emblem and pry them up from there, taking the sides out of play. I believe the adesive is only around the perimeter.

One more note, if you have a clear coat on your side cover, I probably wouldn't use a heat gun.

Hi

If the emblems are attached with something "softer" try a thin fishing line and "saw" it off. and then clean the surface with Ethyl alcohol.
If you are careful you might save the emblems as well.

good luck!

Start with a little seperation between emblem and cover then apply a little fingernail polish remover between them and let it work on the adheasive. It should peal away without damage to the bike. Repeat the process untill removed.

Good advice! My fork emblem flew off 2 days ago, it was peeling off anyways, so i need to replace that one as i could not find it.

When i get home tonight i'll try the fishing line and i have some adhesive remover that i used to clean up the old adhesive that was on the missing fork bracket that held on that emblem.

Thanks!

heat and fishing line sometimes some WD-40 to help the heat soften the older adhesives.
solid tools will gouge
