    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

EMGLO air filters???

My son took off his air box on his 78 GS750 and put Emglo air filters on it. the chrome cone type and not it stammers at take off and if you open throttle quick it won't rev as if the accelerator pump on your car is bad...Do those make it too lean? I can see changing exhaust and rejetting but what about different air cleaners? do I adjust the Pilot screws in the bottom of the carb by the bowls or what?

The carbs on the GS's are very picky about airflow. Anytime you change the original air box to pods you will likely have to rejet. Not many people have a clue how to rejet, that's why mine is all stock. We have what I consider the rejet master amongst us and he enjoys helping you guys do it. Give it time, he'll find your question and jump in to help.
 
You're fortunate in that it should have VM's. They are more adjustable than CV's. Everything from the mains to the pilots are going to need some tweaking. The Emgo's aren't as free flowing as K&N's so you shouldn't need extreme changes. Go a couple sizes up on the mains and raise the needle a notch. Locate which is the fuel screw and which is the air screw. Leave the air screw alone and adjust the fuel screw for the best idle. You'll have to do some plug reads to know if you have it right.
 
You will have to rejet. The stock airbox to pods is a huge change in the amount of air flow! You will sputter and loose power if you try to open the throttle too quickly. There is just too much air and not enough gas to equal things out. Rejet the carbs a size or two (I still have the stock airbox on my '77 GS750, but have changed to pods on my KZ550) I don't know the exact stock size jets. 1-2 sizes up should do it. Jets are fairly cheap, and changing them is one of the easiest things you can do.
Change them out and you will notice a big change in the performance!

Sorry about the "what machine" question. I see it now in the original message.

I'm more of a BS/CV-Mikuni guy so my help would be minimal. Billy Ricks (the guru that just responded) is man you need.

I agree with him concerning your pod-types. K&N allow huge increases in air-flow whereas your EMGOs' won't require near the modifications.

Not even close, just a little general direction to take things in and see how it responds. Keith would be the best help here.
