Engine noise!

So I have had issues with an engine knocking sound- please see video

I previously had the usual clutch basket nut come loose issue along with the basket back spring rattling, so at that time I did the add shims to the backsprings and tig weld the plate back job and tightened up the hub nut tight.

I recently opened the clutch back up after hearing the noise more to check the nut but it's tight. Then I found I had a bit of play in the clutch basket even with the nut being tight.

Would that be the clutch basket bearing that's gone and making that bit of play?

Trying to do what I can to find out what's causing the noise...

Have you performed a vacuum sync on the carbs? I am hearing very uneven running that might be causing that sound.

Might be something loose, too, but it could be aggravated by a bad carb sync.

I haven't done a vacuum sync yet no but will get it done at a shop as soon as I bolt everything back up. Is there any good way to test if the bearing is worn?

Now that I have it open I need to at least find out what's causing that play...

So today I had the clutch out, the back plate and rivets seem all fine since I was last at them.

I think I have found play in the basket bearing and also behind the basket at the oil pump drive bearing. Would anyone know if this play in them is normal or if they need replacing?

Make sure that the washers,etc are oriented correctly behind the clutch hub. I recall an issue with a spacer reversed in this area.

I've just went ahead and bought two new bearings the one for the basket and the one behind it, once I get them then I'll re-fit and check for play I guess. I do think the washers etc were fitted correctly.

The only other thing is the bearing spacer with the screw holes in it, maybe that is worn and now undersize so that is isn't snug with the bearing, although it looks fine and then there is also play on the bearing/spacer at the oil pump drive bearing too so I don't know.

I'm definitely confused with it all...

Hi, I realise this is an old thread, but did you find a solution to your issue?
I have a similar problem on my 79 gs1000e.
There seems to be a fair bit of play in the clutch basket too, and a bad rattle. Not the cush springs on the clutch, had the falicon upgrades installed, and basket welded.
