    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Engine stand?

First off, when I attempt to search 'engine stand' I get this:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home/thegsres/public_html/_forum/search.php on line 1160

If anyone can explain that, that'd be awesome.

What this thread is really about though is to ask if anyone has any information on using an engine stand. It's coming up on the colder months and I'd like to be able to get the engine up and being worked on. Thanks gs-ers.
 
Take an old non-titled frame and cut it to fit.
Then, weld it to a 18" X 18" , or close, flat piece of 3/16" steel plate.
I just placed my 1100ED engine in it this morning or I would have a better picture.
This is with an 1100G engine in it:

Wow, that's a great idea, though I don't have an old frame I could use...
 
I would stick the bigger 1000cc frame if you were going to make a stand, you could always make brackets to accomodate the smaller engines.
 
Highway, that IS the engine from your GK shown in that pic. ;)
The stand is from a '78-81 GS1000 frame.
To make the 1100ED engine fit, I had to remove the lower cradle engine mounts.
As for making different engines fit, I have an entire box filled with mounts/bolts from different models to mix and match to make them fit in it.
I have a couple of '79 1000L frames that I could cut up if someone needs one.

I have seen a "normal" automotive engine stand with adapters to mount a GS engine. Seems like this one had a 750 Engine on it IIRC. The engine stands are cheap from Harbor Freight, but the adapters would need to be fabricated.
 
This is one we made for the busa motor. Bought a cheap auto stand and reworked the head piece.

I was considering a cheap HF stand and trying to make it work but wasn't sure if it'd be efficient enough. Would you just bolt one side then?

This one is made so you can put the top half of the case in upside down. The bracket on the top is for holding it. Uses a bolt for adjustment.

After the crank and and tranny, etc is installed, pup the bottom on, then rotate it 180 and finish assembly
