DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am shopping around for new exhaust for my '80 gs550e, and I am hoping to get into something that is somewhat like this. My main problem is that there are not many exhausts that I see out on the www that are being advertised as for a gs550. So are there any that are cross-compatible? I am really wanting to go with black if at all possible and a 4-1. I guess If I can't find any matches I can always go with Mac 4-1 Megaphone, but I am looking for a more modern look. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mac is the only game in town for the 550 unless you find some old stock parts somewhere. If the pipes on your bike are half as nice as that photo in your signature shows, you would be crazy to take them off for a header.

It doesn't look anywhere near as good as in the picture. Lots of deep pitting, and a small hole in one of the headers. I was hoping to get into a setup with pipes an a can, but I guess I can deal with the mac 4-1 setup.

You can always go custom too, or find a used mac and modify it. Im on the hunt for a cheap 4-1 for my 550e too, just to the collector, and making my own from there, You can get mandrel u bends for cheap and fab something up, Thats what I did on my bagged Yota when every shop said "we cant bend that"

It's also for the 83+ 16V GS550ES models....

Have a look at Motad, they still make 4-1's for the 550.

I checked on that site and couldn't find anthing for the 550. am i missing it?

I doubt it, as the headers are smaller on the 550 than the 750

sorry but I dont believe that motad still manufacters an exhuast system for the gs550. MAC is the only manufacturer that still lists the bike on their website. However, certain stores may still have a motad gs550 system in stock but after they sell them, then.... all gone!

I have contacted Motad here in the UK.. I await there response.

Reply received from Motad...

Hi john,

unfortunatley there comes a time where we have to start looking at taking slow selling products out of our range, the GS550 is one of these and is no longer available.

So there you are.. no longer manufactured, however, there may still be a few new ones still hiding at the back of a few shops and distributors.
