A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

can I use a set of muflers off a harley on my gs 1000g or will this affect my carbies. At the moment there is nothing in my mufflers but some chicken wire to try and quieten it down.
the harley is a Road king not sure about motor size but I believe it was 1200cc.
Craig

having any muffler (off a big bike) is probably better than having none at all
yes, it's going to affect the carbs (but that may be agood thing - depending on other components (carb jets, airbox)

The stock jetting is designed for the stock exhaust and airbox. Changing the exhaust can be done but it causes the engine to run lean. Assuming your bike currently has an open exhaust and stock carbs, adding the Harley mufflers will be an improvement.

?

?

Puting harley parts on a classic will make it slow and have no brakes. Anyone else? LOL

Exhaust

The exhaust I have on now is very loud because the insides have rusted out.
There seems to be mufflers on ebay from time to time so maybe I will look to pick up with a stock set off a 1000cc bike.

I bought a 82 GS650 with a set of Harley exhaust. My bike seems to run hot.
I am suspecting it is the Harley exhaust. I was wondering if I could drill holes in the baffles to let the engine breath better. Any advice?

letting the engine "breathe better" in that way is going to make it run even leaner, meaning hotter not cooler

Well,I am getting pretty good at pulling carbs off by now.I always hear carb cleanning,I agree.I finally figured out my over heating and power lost.
I found rusted and stuck advanced timing counter weights.
First
1. I thought it was the carbs
2.bad coil or lack of 12 volts to the coils.
3.bad ignitor
4.stuck valve or bent
5.faulty wiring
6.Blown head gasket
7.intake o rings
8.clogged exhaust or carbs not tuned to Harley ehaust.

Come to find out,it was the advance timing weights that were rusted stuck.
Taking the pilot air needles out was a task in it's self.
This was one hell of a learning experience.
My main concern is how hot is hot for the engine to run?
I know aluminum melts at 700 degrees or so.
What is a normal temp on a 70 degree day for these bikes?
