A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

F@#!ing Valve Shims!

The question is, when you you learn to leave it go. No good will come out of it...

That was mostly tongue-in-cheek. Have you ever seen anyone in OT change anyone else's mind? I'll say something when their speech becomes too egregious. It is still a matter of respecting each other. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a civil discourse is what is needed, not just villainizing a whole people; that's ridiculous. I still see a lot of that here. Everytime I check in, actually.

Yes I have.

Good luck... You can always find trouble when you seek it out.

Jesus Christ, I'm just trying to get some help on my valves, and you keep at this whole OT thing. Besides, it's just OT, how much trouble could I get into? It's just people talking.

I love my 16 valves more and more when I see folks working with these shims lol.

Hey neighbor, I hear you. I guess really though, my problem boils down to user error. I didn't even really think about it, until the damage was done. I think I'm going to end up replacing the lobes. I don't know; I guess I'll find out. I could start all over with the shim thing that way. I'm not really even sure what I'm talking about just yet, but gearheadE30 has just about convinced me to do something more about it.

I guess that's my next plan of action about the whole situation. I guess that my daily vehicle is going to have to be my truck for now.

I've been looking around for information, and it doesn't look that hard. I don't even know how much the cams are, but I screwed this up and I want to get it right again. Hey Chuck, I guess I'm going to take the long road on this one, damn me!

F&B,

a PO did something similar on one of my cam lobes, and so far it hasn't caused me any grief. Smoothing the edges out makes sense until the time you feel it necessary to swap the cam lobe out.

If you are going to swap, where do you source the lobe? EBay? RapidRay?

Guys...does mixing and matching cause any problems? Or will Ricardo have to change them all?

I just answered a pm from rustybronco. I'm going to try to work it out with him. He's a nice guy. I don't want him to get me wrong. He's always been on my butt since I joined whenever I say something contrary. I'll make it right.

BigD, you're right, but gearhead's words are stuck in my head now. Must change lobes, must change. I am most certainly going to need help with the project. Now that's I've boxed myself in, I have some homework to do. If anyone has any good information I can use, I would surely appreciate it.

Ricardo

You can't change a cam lobe - there's an exhaust cam and an intake cam, you can change either one

Used cams are aways available here or Ebay

F&B,

I see you're blaming the shims for your problems. They're just helpless little pieces of metal. Now, go apoligize to them :)

Ok, good to know. See, I'm that much more knowledgable already. I will now avoid asking for lobes and looking like a complete noob. Thanks for the tips on how to locate them.

I have to apologize to the shims. They have given me an excellent ride so far. I'm sorry shims, and I'm sorry bike for thinking bad thoughts about you. You have given me a lot and asked for so little.
