A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I would like to find out the manufacture date of my recently purchased bike (750et) and wanted to know if it was possible to find out from the VIN and/or engine number?

The info on the steering head with the manufucature details is a sticker, not a plate, and the bit with the month/year or manufacture is missing. I'd like to know for my own piece of mind and also club rego. Month/year would be good enough.

Its an American delivered model if this helps (I'm in Oz)

Oh, and is it safe to post ID numbers like this on a public forum?

cheers :)

Without posting any information, how can anyone answer you??

My guess its a 1981 but thats just a guess. Maybe someone else can figure out what year your bike is.

You could post it in the format GS750X-325XXX. Not sure what someone could do if they had your VIN number anyway.

You could wait and see the responses you get Ricko. There are some friendly folk on here (as I told you on the other forum).

Someone on here will be able to help. You could then send them the VIN via private message if that makes you feel more comfortable. I don't think it would matter to post it here though, but it's up to you obviously.

BTW - Welcome to the GSR, one of the best forums on the net. :D

Thanks Almarconi - I was thinking something like you suggested but wasn't sure the right way to go about it (being a newbie).

Thanks Zooks - I'm sure someone will come along soon - thanks for the welcome here - just checked out your new blog - lookin good :D

Thanks almarconi :)

Vin: GS75X 5102XX

Engine No: GS75X 1164XX

Hope you can find something :)

You have a 1980 GS750.

Frame: GS75X-500030 ~
Engine: GS75X-100097 ~

After 1981 the 17 number VIN was used on the frame. I can't tell you what month it was made maybe someone else could supply some additional information.
