First "Fun" Ride Since Resto

Hi!

This afternoon I got away for a few hours and rode with a real noobie friend of mine. He just got a V-Max about 3 months ago. It's his first bike!

But he has taken the MSF course and hasn't been on the freeway yet. I tried to impart to him some of the things you all have taught me and other things that I have learned by experience. We had a fun, if slow, ride up Azuza Canyon Road, across East Fork Road, then over Glendora Mountain Road. No, I didn't take any pictures while riding. I did, however, find my RAM camera mount so I'll be using that in the future.

Here is Jeff's garage and his V-Max.

This is Jessie in the same spot before my crash.

It was a fun, if not slow, afternoon. It was probably good that I took Jeff with me my first time up in the local mountain roads. I slowed down so that I could keep him in my mirrors. The roads were really dirty anyway, lots of gravel and rock slides. And you all know how much I love rock slides!

Good to see you on the road again Cliff. Your friend Jeff is aware of that thing they call "V Boost" isn't he? Not something you want kicking in when you aren't expecting it.

You should suggest to your friend to get a full face helmet. The one he is wearing will do little good when his face hits the pavement.

Enjoyed the pics, makes me wish I can get back to California again, had a great time there back in 85. Supposed to be summer over here now, but it`s colder than a witches tit right now and raining too !.

Yes, I certainly mentioned to Jeff that "we've got to get you a real helmet". He assured me that will happen next payday. I'm going to hold him to it.

I saw Jeff at church this morning. He told me he took the freeway! I just hope he doesn't try to go too far too fast.

Cliff,

I think your buddy Jeff will do OK while he has good guys like you to show him the ropes. Don't forget, in many ways the most dangerous time for new guys is when they have a few months experience and start thinking, "Hey, this isn't so hard...I've got this nailed!". Truly the "knowing just enough to be dangerous" period.

But again, with a good guy to mentor him he should be just fine.

BTW: I really like both the Mk I and Mk II versions of Jessie. You sure did a good job putting that bike back on the road.

Well done Mr. Cliff. Glad that you are back in the saddle and I must say that bike looks fabulous. I really like the new colour.

There's a bit of pressure mentoring someone isn't there? I'm doing it too and I'm scared wittless thinking I've forgotten some really important piece of information.......and we're still in the parking lot She took the course last fall and is a bit rusty but she can ride fine.....if she would stop over thinking it. I can see the wheels turning (in her head)with every manouver. I'm going to be uber nervous when we get to the street, I just know it.

Plus 1 on the helmet of course and maybe he should also be looking for some armoured gear. I wonder what possessed him to get a "Widow Maker". Those things can be deadly. He really needs to be careful with the boost and also in the twisties as they are not noted for turning all that well.

Well its great that you are out there once again so enjoy yourself but be real careful too.....I'd hate to see that lovely bike trashed again....and you too of course.

How do you like the spitfire windscreen. I have been thinking about getting one of those.

Thanks for all the good wishes guys. Yes, it's good to be back in the saddle. And I don't plan on crashing again. I promised Mrs. BassCliff.

I'm going to keep in constant contact with Jeff. I was unaware of the "V-Boost" and will have to do some research so that I can speak intelligently to that. I was talking to him about his bike and all he seems to know is that it's a 1200cc V-4 and where to put gas in it. I'll have to find him a good online forum.

As for my windshield, Mr. glstine, I like that deflector size Slipstreamer Spitfire because it protects me just enough without being a sail and getting pushed around by crosswinds and such. I angle it back quite a bit to get my helmet in clean air (less wind turbulence noise) but my body doesn't get beat up by the wind or hit with little debris or bugs. National Cycle makes a good looking deflector size screen too, but it's more expensive. The Spitfire screen is about $65.

So glad you're out having fun on two wheels again. I love the pics of Jessie out in creation...what fantastic scenery. You've done a real nice job putting her back together and I love that color.

And good job paying it forward by guiding a new rider along the right path. Your encouragement and insight will set him up for years of motorcycle pleasure.
