All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

No photos, except in my introduction elsewhere, yet.

Just got the bike home.

Filthy with lots of stuck on dirt, grease and grime.

Someone has started pulling out the wiring and its all over the place.

Seat is had it but all there.

Overall I am not disappointed.

Found the frame number. GS550E-711587

No kick start so electric, contact points. Frame seems straight and so do the forks. Rear suspension all there but bushings look perished, very dirty and springs have rust spots all over. Tank fine.
Apart from side panels everything seems to be there. Including indicators and instruments.

Choke goes thru the steering head.
Mikuni carbs.

Looks like the exhaust original was a 4-2 setup ad the rear of the frame on both sides has exhaust hangers. Took me a min to realise this. looked quite strange to start with the left hand side seeming to bend down to the ground. Somewhere along the line it has been changed to an awful looking 4-1 piece.

Yokohama tyres on both wheels. Both blown up and looking almost new, still have mould flashings on them. Chain was well greased but spins well.

Not sure how well it runs. Compression test shows 2 and 3 are about 10% down while 1 and 4 are ok.

Just sitting looking today. Cleaning some of the crud off it, (previous owner kept it outside for 2 years under tarp.)

Trying to decide where to start. I think the electrics will come off first. They are already a mess.

My step son informed me he will be working at a powder coating company for a few weeks and may be able to get frame and swinging arm done for
" 5/8ths of f@## all" his words.

Anyway just wanted to start this thread. Pics to follow.

Chris

Here are some pictures I have taken as a start to the records for the build. Needless to say there are going to be many in my folder on the laptop. Also as much data I can gather from other sources.

Please excuse the quality and alignment. Just starting.
