    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This is for my own sanity more than anything else. I searched and found bits of this already listed but not all in one place so for peace of mind I am asking.

I have a 1980 GS850L
CV Carburetor
original everything, exhaust, air intake
clean

I measured my floats from where the gaskets go to the bottom of the first curve below the metal that holds the float on the pivot. The book said between 21.4 and 23.4 mm. I set it to 22.4.

My question is the measurement felt off, just gut feeling, anyone know for shore this is right?
And if I set it at the angle it would be on the bike and place gas into it through the intake will it over flow if the floats are not set right or will the floats stop the gas from letting more in?

I think it will stop the gas from over flowing the carb if the floats are stet up right.

You had the gasket removed, right? Overflowing carbs is a symptom of poor seating of the the needle & seat, not float hieght.

yes, no gasket, and from that if I fill it up with gas off from the bike and it leaks then I need to look to the Needle and seat. Got it. Thank you.

Update

I got the floats to the right levels, filed them up with gas not on the bike and no gas came out.

Got the carbs back on the bike now I feel it is running a little rich. How do I adjust for this?

CV Carbs and everything is original.
