I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Float Height in Colorado?

So the last two early 80's GS liter bikes I've bought here in Denver had the float heights set way high, 26-27mm from gasket surface to flat on float.
The bowls were carrying very little fuel in them.
During the carb rebuilds I set them back to the 22-23mm range and the bikes run awesome.
Any idea why shops would set them so lean for Colorado? Personally I've seen no effect on performance of a CV carb in Denver, above 8,000', yes, you can feel it.
I'm just curious...

Yes.(gasket surface to flat on the float, per the service manual) That's why I was curious to see if anyone would have a reason that they were set so high. The bikes I bought were from guys who didn't do their own maintenance, so I'm assuming it was the shops they took them to.

Hey, I recognize those fingers.

Usually, a shop will use the wrong place to measure, which results in the float being wrong in the other direction. Setting the tops to the 22.4 ? 1.0 specification will yield about 18 or 19 at the correct location. That will yield a higher fuel level in the bowl, making it richer, which is NOT what you need at your elevation.

By the way, with your CV-type carbs, you don't need to worry too much about re-jetting for elevation.
