    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

floats not flowing gas?

i posted earlier but got no replys, please help. my 81 gs 650 sat for a long time. i cleaned the carbs and it ran but fuel poured out the overflows. not i put in new needle float valves and it will not fire at all. i have gas in the bowls but none to the cylinders. what did i do wrong? are the floats to high or to low as they were a slightly dif style than factory.(no screeen on bottom of valve)
please help i need to ride the beast.

How did you clean the carbs? did you take them compltely apart and soak them in carb cleaner and replace all of the o-rings? It sounds to me like the pilot circuit is completly clogged up so it can't pull fuel into the cylinders.

It sounds like your not having problems with your floats or needle valves anymore. It sounds like your not drawing any fuel out of the bowls. I agree with dgeorge. Sounds like your carbs pilots are clogged.

how should i clean piolet jets then

when i cleaned my carbs all i did was take off the float bowls, cleaned all orfices with carb cleaner removed the varnish and replaced the float needles. i also sprayed the hell out of the rest of the carbs anything i could see. i did not break them apart like in the pictures but felt pretty good about them. also it did run last fall but not well. i put in the new flat needles and it wont run at all. please help
should i break them all the way apart?

Did you happen to run a thin wire through all the jets and holes? The main jets will pop out and have more tiny holes on them that you have to clean. I was told that its better to be thourough or else you will end up taking the carbs off and working with them more then once. Did you happen to replace the o-rings while you were in there?
 
Nicholas, Yes you should take them completely apart and soak them in carb cleaner. What has probably happened is that letting them sit over the winter clogged up the pilot circuit. When gas sits for more then a few weeks it starts to turn to varnish and can clog small passages very easily. I would also contact Robert Barr and get the o-rings for your carbs ( I think you have the CV carbs) and replace them. The carb clean up article on here is excellent and provides great pictures of the process. If you follow the procedures discribed I am sure that it will solve most of your problems with the carbs.
