DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok so the wife is out of town for the holiday. The Boss saw fit not to give it to me off. So I figured as a bachelor I would finish putting her together tomorrow morning.

The problem is I left the book at home and do not know how much oil she requires. I was going to stop off at wally world on the way home tonight and pick some up.

I have tried searching for the answer but could not find it.

Can someone tell me how much oil I need. She has been totally broken down and drained. It is a 1982 GS1100GK.

I was also going to pick up new plugs so if any one knows which ones she takes please let me know.

I have don't get off till midnight so any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for helping me out

The amount of oil will be embossed near the fill hole, probably about 3 liters. Add a bit for the new filter, say about 3.6 liters total. In American, that's just a touch under 4 quarts, you will be safe to just dump in a full four quarts and call it good.

For spark plugs, use the standard ND B8ES.

I hope I am not too far off base on this but I would not put in the full 4 qt. Doesn't overfilling with oil cause some problems with seals or gaskets?
Personally I would put in 3 1/2 qt. then run it for a little while to get oil into the filter and shut it off, wait a few minutes then top it off using the sight glass or dip stick whichever you have.
I would rather have mine running just short of capacity as opposed to running over capacity. (just my opinion)

I think the amount of over-fill is about 4 ounces. That will raise the level about 1/8". Not nearly enough to cause any problems. Certainly not worth all the trouble to measure out a fraction of a quart, then try to keep track of that partial quart until the level gets low enough that you need it. :o

The greatest danger with over-filling is getting the level too close to the crank and risking having it whipped into a froth. I don't think the additional 1/8" matters all that much. On the other hand, if you fill it WAY too much, the crank might hit the oil and do some damage with the sudden impact. Think of how you feel doing a belly-flop off the high dive.

as usual thanks for the help and the lessons. every little bit helps

Thanks

Matt
